New album coming:

‘An incomplete Encyclopedia of Gentle Emotions’

The Counterfictionals' second album is unusually ambitious. We've spent more days in the studio than usual. The musicians have been given time and opportunity to express themselves individually. We've meticulously processed the recordings unusually thoroughly. There has been dubbing, elaboration, and further development. The cover will consist of 6 original and well-crafted artworks, with detailed texts that elaborate on the compositions and create depth. Many people have been involved - and their experiences, abilities, and viewpoints have been utilized and incorporated.

Similar to the first DMA-nominated (best jazz album) and internationally acclaimed album, No Hay Banda, the music is based on the world of cinema. Texts are written and images painted to describe the film, but more than that. A kind of mythology is built up around each track.

Poems and Rain - 'Joyce in Paris,' a fictional film starring Timothée Chalamet as the young James Joyce and Tilda Swinton as 'The God of Rain'. It's about youthful poetic longing.

Norm Gunderson's 3-cent stamp - Based on the world's most beautiful love scene from the movie Fargo. Marge explains to Norm the beauty in the little things.

Beatrix and Bill’s theme - Before Beatrix hated Bill (from Kill Bill), she loved him. It's about loving the dangerous.

Puppets - In 'Being John Malkovich,' many characters have very little control over their lives. It's about the feeling of not being in control.

Memories of Poems and Rain. I also lived in Paris in my twenties. That's what I think back to.

The White Lodge. Based on the Cthulhu mythology and Twin Peaks. About the great uncontrollable.

The music is instrumental and appeals to curious listeners - beyond the jazz segment. We target listeners who enjoy films by Yorgos Lanthimos and Sally Potter.

The album is expected to be released in the Autumn of 2024.
